Coffee Hour with Think Local First! Think Local First is continuing the Even Thursdays coffee hour though the summer and beyond. It is an opportunity to meet our executive director, Ingrid Ault. She will be available each Thursday that falls on an even day every month. Stop by Zingerman's Next Door from 7 am to 9 am and say hello. We partnered with the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce who began this gathering over two years ago and welcomed us to participate with them. They are on hiatus, but we will still be there.
Feel free to stop in anytime between 7 and 9 AM to introduce yourself, ask questions, become a member, or even to air a grievance. We would like to learn more about the members of Think Local First and hope this will be a casual opportunity to meet and greet existing, new and potential members and friends.
Look for Ingrid on the second floor of Zingerman's Next Door at 418 Detroit St. in Ann Arbor (near E. Kingsley St.) in the front room, facing the street. We look forward to meeting you soon!
Upcoming meetings days are February 18th, March 4th and the 18th. Stop by to say hello soon!

Think Local First has been given a grant to study alternative currencies by the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority. We held several community input meetings and are now asking for feedback. This survey is open to anyone who lives in Washtenaw County and will take about 15 minutes to complete.
We ask that you review our slide presentation prior to taking the survey. It has 40 panels and takes you through the different models of alternative currencies. Once you have seen the presentation, please take the short seven question survey. Here are the links for you to participate.
Thank you for your time and opinions. We will be reporting to the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority in early April. We will also post our findings on this website, so come visit again in early April, or sign up for our e-newsletter and we'll keep you up to date this way.
Finally, thanks to those who came to participate in our community input meetings held on Tuesday, February 23rd at the downtown branch of the Ann Arbor District Library, Thursday, February 25th at the Ypsilanti Senior Center, and Wednesday, March 3rd at Vitosha Guest Haus Inn (click on location for directions). We enjoyed meeting all of you and were impressed with the knowledge the community brought to us!
Did You Read Our Holiday Shopping Articles?
Our executive director, Ingrid Ault asked our members in the November e-newsletter to share shopping ideas with her. She wrote a series of articles for annarbor.com about shopping during the month of December. One piece was published in the Sunday December 13th print edition and the rest were made available on line. Thank you to those that provided us with material to write about. We wanted to include every business, but we know we missed some. Next year we will ask earlier and more often for feedback as we know it is a busy time for everyone.
Our article about buying locally made products at local independently owned businesses is here. It was published on the inside page of the first section in the Sunday Dec. 13th edition. We also wrote about:
We were also interviewed in an article about the end of the shopping season. We were pleased to hear that many of our members reported a positive experience this year with some reporting an increase of 30% over last year's sales. Click here to read the article.
