University of Michigan Credit Union

The University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU) is a community financial institution that provides a wide range of products and services. Since 1954, UMCU has dedicated themselves to the credit union philosophy of people helping people.

Credit Union vs. a Bank
There are significant differences between a credit union and a bank. Banks are owned by shareholders and are accountable to a board of directors. UMCU is owned by it’s members who are accountable only to their members (owners). Conducting business with a bank assures shareholders collect the profits. While with UMCU, a not for profit organization, the profits are returned to their membership in the form of lower loan interest rates and higher dividends.

Unexpected Extras
UMCU does more than provide great rates; they also offer a variety of products and services. Free basic checking, auto loans, credit cards and home mortgages are just the beginning. They also provide many special unexpected services including free identity theft protection, free budget counseling, and financial advisor services.
Access to 25,000 ATM’s
In addition to seven local branches, UMCU members enjoy access to a network of over 25,000 ATMs (CO-OP Network), throughout the U.S. and Canada. Further, their members have access to their accounts at more than 3,000-shared branches throughout the U.S., no matter where they live or travel.

A Strong Presence in the Community
UMCU is committed to servicing their membership, their families and the community in which they live and work. They offer loans to members understanding that keeping money local, helps to build a stronger community. UMCU actively sponsors events and organizations that work to improve the value of life in their community and on the University campuses. They strive to make a difference everyday.
