Legacy Land Conservancy protects local forests, fields, wetlands, and rivers - today and forever. Established in 1971 as Michigan's first local land trust, the nonprofit, community-supported Conservancy has protected 3,756 acres of nature and farmland, here where you live. The Conservancy works with landowners and conservation partners to establish permanent agreements to protect important natural areas and farmland. Our five nature preserves are open to the public for all to enjoy. Our conservation priorities are focused in three areas: 1. Nature - When you look at a map of the community, you can see a green arc that extends from the parklands along the Huron River, westward through the Pinckney and Waterloo Recreation Areas, and south toward the Sharonville Game Area. The Conservancy is working to fill in the gaps in this green corridor. 2. Food - Local food is fresh, tasty, nutritious, and supports the local economy. But there's no local food without local farms! The Conservancy works with willing farmers, particularly in rural southwest Washtenaw County, to establish conservation agreements that will protect their land for all time. 3. Water - Rivers, streams, and wetlands provide our community with healthy drinking water, natural stormwater management, recreation opportunities - and plenty of beauty! Working with the local watershed groups, the Conservancy protects our water recharge areas, wetlands, and rivers. |
