Friends get over two years in prison for attempting to rob ATM and other crimes

KUALA PILAH: Three friends have been sentenced to 29 months in prison after pleading guilty in the Magistrate Court to a charge of attempting to rob an automated teller machine (ATM).

Mohd Ridzuwan Md Daud, 36, Mohamad Faris Zaki, 29, and Mohd Najib Husain, 26, did not contest the charge after it was read to them before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti.

The trio committed the offense at an ATM in Johol around 4 a.m. on December 13, 2021 and were charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code read in conjunction with Section 511 of the same Act and the Article 34 of the same legislation.

Violators can be jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both

The friends also pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking a glass enclosure at the ATM kiosk which cost RM1,500 in losses.

For this, they were each sentenced to one year in prison.

They were charged under Article 427 of the Penal Code, which is punishable by imprisonment for one to five years, a fine or both if convicted.

The court also ordered Mohd Ridzuwan to serve three years in prison after pleading guilty to a third charge of stealing a Proton Iswara.

He committed the offense around 3 a.m. on November 16, 2021 in Dangi and was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of one to seven years and a fine.

Mohd Najib was also sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to receiving possession of a stolen vehicle.

He was charged under Article 414 of the Penal Code which carries a prison term of up to seven years, a fine or both if convicted.

All three will serve their sentences simultaneously.

The trio were not pictured while Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi was sued.
