Suspected armed robbers killed two people at different locations over the weekend in Ibadan.

The victims were shot dead after withdrawing undisclosed amounts through commercial bank automated teller machines (ATMs), (name withheld) at Ire Akari Estate, near the new garage and a few meters from an Ibadan-based radio station , Fresh FM , Challenge.

One of the victims, Femi Olaniyi Adebayo, a computer science graduate, was killed in the Ajinde area of Ire-Akari domain, near the New Garage/Apata highway, Ibadan, on Saturday evening, while another victim who has not yet been identified was killed after N250,000 was withdrawn from the ATM point a few kilometers from Fresh FM radio station, Ibadan.

Our correspondent has gathered that Adebayo was killed shortly after withdrawing an undisclosed amount from one of the next-generation banks at the Challenge bus stop.

It was established that suspected thieves who operated on a motorbike followed him from the collection point to where he was finally shot.

The deceased, 29, a computer science graduate, went to withdraw cash from a bank’s ATM at Orita Challenge around 7:00 p.m. Saturday night.

According to his fiancée who was with him in the car at the time, the robbers claimed the money he had just withdrawn.

His fiancée said: ‘He politely replied that he had given the money to the owner. They did not believe him and shot him in the left hand from a very short distance. In a very short time, they fired several shots into his chest. They took my phones and my money from my purse.

Confirming the development, the father of the deceased, Alhaji Fatai Adebayo told our correspondent that the death of his only son had changed the story of the family.

He said; “It is true that my only son was shot dead on Saturday evening. I am damned. His death changed my life and my family’s story. I leave them for God. I leave the thieves for God,” he lamented.

In a related development, an as-yet-unidentified quarry laborer was shot dead after withdrawing 250,000 naira to pay his laborers around the Challenge-toll road on Friday afternoon.

Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incident reports that although the victim’s remains were taken away, the bloodstain was still on the ground.

The suspected armed robbers, as reliably collected, escaped after the victim fell off the motorcycle, while the cash was carried away by the robbers.

A neighborhood source who craves anonymity said; “It was during the day. We were all there when we heard the shot. The young man was a career worker and he fell after the shot.

The motorcyclist escaped but his passenger died instantly. We cannot approach the thieves because they were armed and they also came on motorbikes.

“They escaped through the Lagos-Ibadan highway tollbooth. It was later when his people came to take his remains, they told us that he had come to town to withdraw money for his laborers and the money was only 250,000 naira.

When contacted, state police public relations officer Adewale Osifeso said investigations were underway into the two incidents of theft, saying the public would be informed accordingly.
